Boston Terriers, also called Boston Bulls, are referred to as utility dogs. They serve mainly as companions and are good with children. Easy to train and look after, Bostons are good for apartment life. A house will do the best for these warm-loving sociable dogs.

The Boston Terrier is a cross between the English Bulldog and the Bull Terrier. The first stock appeared in England. The dogs were brought to the USA where perfection of the breed continued. The American Bull Terrier Club was organized in Boston in 1889.
However, the dog lovers faced misunderstanding on the side of Bull Terrier and English Bulldog owners. They did not think the new breed was identical to Terriers. Nor did it look like the Bull Terrier. The way out was to name the breed "Boston Terrier."
Interesting enough, the Boston Terrier history did not end at that point. The AKC resisted registering the breed. Not sooner than in 1893 were Boston Terriers recognized as a separate breed.
