When choosing a breeder to buy a Boston Terrier from, one should remember the importance of a proper breeding program and conditions the breeder supplies puppies with. A reputable breeder carefully plans litters. An in-depth investigation of the dogs' pedigrees is held beforehand. The breeder should make sure that future Bostons will not inherit their parents' diseases. Breeding from poor quality dogs may result in hereditary problems, such as hypothyroidism, which is so common in Boston Terriers.

A reputable breeder will be glad to show you copies of the parents' pedigrees, pictures and videos. Written proof of vaccinations done to puppies is a strong argument also. Examine the Bostons' living conditions. Puppies should be raised in a clean place that is neither noisy, nor isolated. Well-socialized Bostons are not afraid of strangers.
